'Vernacular architecture is an oxymoron. By its nature, it cannot be appropriated without becoming something else. One could say that architecture is the conscious appropriation of building into culture. As soon as we go near the vernacular, we kill it.' Charles Holland, 2019

The raw material building is a small storage building for flammable chemicals. The building's design takes into account its context and refers to industrial construction practices; a pragmatic aesthetic characterized by applied building elements, such as external guides, spiral staircases and other ad-hoc steel structures.

The facade grating is represented as an exemplary material for industrial architecture. By formulating the grid as an architectural element that simultaneously organizes and represents, a framework of reference and identity is built.

Structure, texture and contour give the building its character. The depth of the facade communicates a security and robustness that reflects the building's function.

The proud red color and precise details reflect Thermo Fisher Scientific's values. Despite the fact that the building is modest in scale, it gives as much as possible to its surroundings.
