Comprehensive upgrade of outdoor areas and facades

The upgrade of the outdoor areas at Gulskogen Center was completed in the spring of 2025. The project marks a clear boost for the center and the surrounding area – where architecture, landscape and function interact to create a more inviting, safe and vibrant urban space.

Holistic urban space management

The outdoor areas have been developed by IN SITU AS, as part of an overall vision to open the center to the surroundings and establish a clear meeting point for the district. The project includes new pedestrian and bicycle connections, the development of square areas and a significant reduction in surface parking in favor of green living spaces and better conditions for pedestrians.

A total of 580 new bicycle parking spaces have been established, integrated into the new square and access area. The traffic pattern has also been adjusted to ensure safer and more intuitive flow between pedestrians, cyclists and drivers.
The practical solutions have also been improved – among other things, the waste disposal facility has been upgraded with a new access and route for waste disposal trucks, which now functions efficiently and without conflict with other traffic.

Architectural and landscape quality

The project is based on the desire to create a clear and inviting center area where function, identity and experience meet. The whole is characterized by simplicity in form and use of materials, but with high quality details and a character adapted to the location.
IN SITU Landscape Architects was responsible for the landscape design of the outdoor areas, while ANT was the responsible applicant.
Paving, furnishings and vegetation have been chosen to ensure durability, ease of use and a holistic aesthetic. The result is an urban space that connects commerce, everyday life and recreation – and which strengthens Gulskogen Senter as a natural centerpiece in the district.

Facade upgrade and outdoor seating

As part of the overall project, the center's facades facing the square area have been upgraded, with new materials and a clearer architectural rhythm that gives the building a more modern and holistic expression.

At the same time, the EGON restaurant's outdoor seating area has been established as an active part of the square. The new outdoor seating area gives the urban space a more urban and social feel, with robust materials, well-crafted details and planting that creates a warm and green frame around the seating areas. The measure contributes to increased life between the buildings and to activating the square throughout the year.
