The roof overhang is a protective structure over an existing laboratory module. The structure functions as a technical floor for the ventilation system and forms a protection over the loading ramp.
The architectural context is characterized by a combination of postmodern “sugar cubes” applied with elements of contemporary industrial building practices with its spiral staircases and steel structures. The roof overhang creates a visual connection between the red steel lattice facade of the raw material building, and the strong graphic references to classicist motifs of the existing main building. The construction is intended to be light and airy, while communicating solidity.
